Chul Ho Bae tops Main Event Day 1A; Marco Almerez and Alfie Poetra win side events

Main Event Day 1A

Another packed room at the APT Finale Philippines 2018 with the MAIN EVENT – P10 Million Guaranteed as the day’s hottest ticket. Registration stayed open from start to finish. 95 runners came out for Day 1A with 46 surviving the scheduled eight rounds. Earning top rank was Korean player Chul Ho Bae with 133,400 in chips.

Other players making it through with over 100k were Australia’s Bobby Zhang with 106,500 and Singapore’s Kenneth Khoo with 106,300. These were the top three in Day 1A and will be the players to catch up to for the next starting flight.

Notable players also advancing were defending champion Tetsuya Tsuchikawa, two-time APT champion Henrik Tollefsen, APT champions Linh Tran and Lim Yohwan, and WSOP 2017 bracelet winner Aditya Sushant.

Marco Almerez wins the Opening Event; leads APT POS leader board

Over a week ago, Filipino player Marco Almerez rose to victory at the RVS CUP, the biggest local tournament hosted annually by the Metro Card Club. This was his first recorded win. Building on that momentum, Almerez took on the APT-RWM Opening Event where he outshined once again. He overcame a field of 220 entries, defeating Filipino pro Mike Takayama at heads up. Almerez pocketed PHP 350,600 and his first-ever APT trophy. He now sets the pace in the APT Player of the Series leader board.

The opening event kicked off yesterday with players paying up the PHP 11,000 entry fee. The 1M guaranteed was easily surpassed for a prizepool of PHP 2,134,000. The money flowed starting at 37th place. The event resumed today with the Final 8 players back on the felt.

Alfie Poetra wins the PLO Hi

The only non-Hold’em event in the roster, the Pot Limit Omaha Hi turned up 53 entries. Each one ponied up the PHP 16,500 buy-in for a prizepool of PHP 771,100. The top 9 players earned their respective share. Pocketing the PHP 231,300 first prize was Alfie Poetra. He defeated Anthony Abram at the heads up round. 

The final hand saw a 5 10 6 flop, Abram was at risk with K K 2 2 against Poetra’s 10 5 8 7. The turn K improved Abram to a set but the river 9 was for Poetra who improved to a straight to ship it all in. 

Before the money flowed, the bubble burst on Kai Paulsen. He was all in on the flop of a board 6 K 7 9 J. He had 3 A 4 6  nut flush draw that fell to Buddy Dungca‘s 9 10 Q Q straight. Dungca went on to finish in 5th place.
