Championships Event race to the Final 8; New Event – Ante BB; Yoichi Uesugi rises to victory at the Deep Stack Turbo 1

Good morning players! We are one day away from wrapping up APT Vietnam Ho Chi Minh Championships here at Pro Poker Club but before that happens we’ve got more exciting poker events taking place. Here’s what we have for you today:

1:00pm: The floor heats up with Day 3 of the Championships Event. 29 players out of the 213 total entries head back to battle it out for a Final 8 seat. Commanding the race is Nguyen Tuan Anh with his enormous stack of 1,309,000. You can track the action via our Live Updates starting at 1pm.

3:00pm: Get ready for the NLH Ante BB. This is our newest addition to the roster. It is a No Limit Hold’em tournament featuring the ante bb format. With most events around the world transitioning to this new format, we’ve added it in for everyone to experience. The NLH Ante BB does away with the traditional style of everyone at the table ante-ing up, replaced instead with just the big blind player posting a total of two big blinds at his/her turn. The Ante BB format will be a standard at most of the APT events going forward. Buy-in is VND 5,500,000.

6:00PM: Kicking off the evening’s festivities, we have another edition of the Deep Stack Turbo taking place. This is one of the most enjoyable games in the schedule, especially on the weekends with everyone eager to be part of the action. Buy-in is VND3,300,000.

Yoichi Uesugi rises to victory at the Deep Stack Turbo 1

The Deep Stack Turbo 1 concluded in the wee hours of the night with Yoichi Uesugi going from 5 bbs to the top. He outlasted the 104 entry field to capture the VND 75,880,000 first prize and the event trophy. The Final 8 streamed live on APT Twitch and APT YouTube. It has now been uploaded so you can check that out anytime. For our readers, we have a brief recap below of his victory.

Yoichi Uesugi, Deep Stack Turbo champion

Entering the final table, Uesugi was one of the shortest stacks and dropped further to 5 bbs. He managed to rise out of the dregs, doubling up with queens through Vi Vee Goldman. From there, it was full speed ahead.

A few eliminations in, the five-handed round saw the chip lead exchange several times until Uesugi knocked out Le Ho Sam Nam (5th). With the help of pocket aces, Useugi eliminated Alecz Chan (4th) and later, Erik Billgren (3rd) also with the nuts hole cards.

This brought on the heads up round with Uesugi holding a substantial lead against Huynh Tan Dung  aka Pegasus. It was a thrilling duel between them with Pegasus putting up a strong fight. As Pegasus challenged and climbed, Uesugi’s stack flipped. At one point, it looked like the end for Uesugi but like he did at the start of the final table, he rose from near elimination to retake the lead to bring home the bacon.
