The battle for the ITM spot is over; the war for the APT crown begins.
For 36 players who have played in the main event of the APT Asian Series Cebu 2014 their efforts have paid off after tough and grueling two days of competitive poker at the All-In Poker Club in Cebu, Philippines.
After Day 2, Stephen Miles from England slightly edged Linh Tran (Canada) and Bryan Huang (Singapore) for the chip lead with 454,000 to 425,000 and 402,00 in chips, respectively.
While the Canadian and Singaporean slowly but surely found their way to the top, the Englishman did it in one swipe.
Facing the possibility of elimination very late in the day—or specifically, during the hand-for-hand round—Miles shoved his stack on the river against China’s Mo Yong Wei on what was a very wet board.
Wei folded her hand to give up the big pot to Miles. The Chinese lady dropped to 339,000 and would have been the chip leader if she’d won the pot versus Miles.
“It was obviously the bubble; it was an interesting dynamic between the two big stacks; and I played a lot with this lady today and we’ve played some big pots together, so it’s kind of, there’s a lot of history all in one hand, that led to that hand,” shared the affable Miles when asked about the crucial move.
And when pressed for specifics about his hand during bubble time, his answer was as cryptic as his all-in move, “Ha! I don’t want to say if I was bluffing or not!”
While Miles, Tran and Huang will be leading the pack entering Day 3, the trio still have a lot of work to do with a star-studded final 36 gunning for the APT Cebu title.
Among the notable pros remaining in the field are Do Hoang Anh (Vietnam) with 331,000 in chips; Michael Kue Seong Tchong (Australia) with 247,000; Antonio Martins (Potugal) with 308,000; Mike Takayama (Philippines) with 37,000; Daryl James Green (England) with 303,000; Czardy Rivera (Philippines) with 101,000; Samad Razavi (England) with 297,000; Euryd Rivera (Philippines) with 61,000; Min Soo Kim (South Korea) with 125,000 and Hoylt Bricken Corkins (USA) with 97,000.
The minimum payout for making it this far is at PHP 100,000. The maximum is the champion’s purse of PHP 3,235,000 from the total prize pool of PHP 13,341,000.
Day 3 of the APT Asian Series Cebu 2014 Main Event is set at 1 p.m. Tuesday when the remaining survivors play down to 8-handed final table.
