HomeAfter nine days of poker festivities at the Asian Poker Tour Manila 2016 held at the APT Poker Room in the Waterfront Manila Pavilion Hotel and Casino, a total of eighteen side event trophies were awarded and the thirteenth APT Championship Ring was claimed. Below are the highlights of the festival along with the winners of the final three events.
Alexis Lim is the newest APT Main Event Champion
APT Manila 2016 Main Event Champion, Alexis Lim
Filipino Alexis Lim combined utmost patience and skill to outplay Vietnam’s Nguyen Hoang Huy at the heads up round of the APT Main Event to capture the first place purse of P766,000, his first APT championship title, and the APT Championship Ring. The final hand saw Lim defeat Huy with an exciting quads over full house.
SJ Kim and Brandon Boswell win two side event trophies
Korea’s SJ Kim had a terrific run at the festival placing 3rd at the APT Main Event, and winning two side event titles, the NLH 50K Challenge and the 6 Handed Turbo. With these accomplishments, Kim overtook Korea’s Kimura Lee Jongyeol in the APT Regional POY Korea 2016 race to slide into the number one spot.
USA’s Brandon Boswell also celebrated two side event victories, a fantastic achievement for his first-ever APT appearance. Boswell won the WeLoveSport Deep Stack Turbo event, and at the Monster Stack event, he came from behind to defeat Filipino Moses Saquing with his dramatic straight flush hand.
Iori Yogo maintains lead in the APT POY 2016 race
The APT Player of the Year 2016 race continued to see some mobility with UK’s Samad Razavi playing catch up to current leader, Japan’s Iori Yogo. During the early days of the event, Razavi cashed in two events, which included a victory at the Ante Up for Charity, to narrow the gap in points. However, the later stages saw Yogo put the heat on cashing out in a total of three events to accrue more points and widen his lead.
Random memorable hands
Alexis Lim won the APT Main Event with Q♣ J♦ quads over 7♥ 7♠ full house on a board of 6♠ 9♣ J♠ J♣ J♥.
At Day 2, Tien Quyet Pham forced Lester Edoc to fold his A♥ 4♥ on a board of 7♣ 4♠ K♠ 4♦ 10♥. Pham didn’t show.
With exactly even stacks, Brandon Boswell won the Monster Stack event with 4♣ 5♣ straight flush against Moses Saquing’s K♦ Q♣ flush on a board of 3♣ 9♣ J♠ 7♣ 6♣.
Filipino Emmanuel Segismundo crushed USA’s Nick Gorman in the Welcome Event with quad jacks over full house and eventually went on to win the trophy.
Korea’s Seongsu Kong wins the Super Deepstack Turbo

Among the many players who took home their first APT trophy, one of them was Korea’s Seongsu Kong after winning the Super Deep Stack Turbo event. Kong overcame a field of 36 players to scoop up the first place cash of P139,700.

Another trophy for Korea’s SJ Kim, wins the 6 Handed Turbo event
6 Handed Champion, SJ Kim
Korea’s SJ Kim came out on top at one of the last events of the APT Manila 2016. He defeated fellow countryman Ju Young Lee at the heads up round of the 6 Handed Turbo event to seize his second trophy of the festival and the P92,100 first place prize money.

Korea’s Chul Ho Bae wins the Deep Stack Hyper Turbo event
Deep Stack Hyper Turbo Champion, Chul Ho Bae
The Deep Stack Hyper Turbo event saw Korea’s Chul Ho Bae defeat Japan’s Mitsuru Sano at the heads up round to run away with the last trophy of the festival. The final hand that wrapped up the entire event was Bae’s Q♦ 4♣ winning over Sano’s K♦ 9♣ on a board of 2♥ 7♠ 3♦ 8♠ 4♠.
