Another title for Iori Yogo! Wins the PLO Hi-Lo Split

Japanese pro Iori Yogo shipped in his second title of the APT Manila 2017 held at the Winford Hotel & Casino.  He defeated New Caledonia’s Andre Moracchini at the heads up round of the Pot Limit Omaha Hi – Lo Split event. Yogo was awarded the event trophy and the PHP 52,700 first place prize money.

Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo Split Champion, Iori Yogo

The day began with 34 players taking part in the APT’s newest side event, the PLO Hi – Lo Split. With no shoves happening early and lots of split pots seen, it took quite some time before the field downsized to half. When it did, Yogo was sporting a short stack while Moracchini was clearly the dominating big stack.

After more fell, a shift in leadership took place with Moracchini losing his status to Bahrain’s Hesham Bucheery. Bucheery won a sizable pot against Moracchini with a winning nut straight. By the time the Final 8 table was reached, Moracchini’s stack dropped further, Yogo boosted up to good health, and Bucheery was the player in charge.

Money round

Final Table of the Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo Split Event

Although making it to the RFID feature table offers a sense of thrill, only five of them would make a profit. The first to the money was Korea’s Seo Kwambum (5th) followed by Filipino Potenciano Lanat (4th). This left Bucheery, Yogo, and Moracchini to fight it out for the title.

The three-handed round began with Yogo now ahead in chips, Moracchini in second rank, and Bucheery on the tail end. It didn’t take long for Bucheery to fall, losing the draw against Moracchini. The hand had both players all in on the flop of a completed board A Q A 10 4. Bucheery held Q Q 8 3 and Moracchini with A K 7 4 spiking a higher full house on the river.

Heads Up round

Heads up round against Andre Moracchini

With Moracchini shipping in a nice big pile, he entered the heads up round nearly 2:1 in chips ahead of Yogo. The first two showdowns between them turned splitsville but the third one was the game changer. On a flop of 5 K 6, all the chips found their way to the middle. Moracchini had 5 5 Q 10 set and Yogo held K K Q 3 higher set. The turn J and river 2 switched the leadership to Yogo and from there he was able to close it out.

The final hand saw the dismayed Moracchini shake his head on a board of 5 6 9 K 2 with his Q 7 7 2 hand defeated by Yogo’s J 8 8 3.

With this victory, Yogo claimed another qualifying point to the upcoming Game of Champions. He now has a total of 8 APT trophies earned this year and his second at the ongoing APT Manila 2017 festival.
