Swedish player Martin Nilsson has won the APT Asian Series Goa Main Event to take home INR 1,942,000 in prize money. He entered the heads up with India’s Manan Khetan with the chip disadvantage but soon took control of the contest.
“I was pretty confident at heads up,” said Nilsson after his win. Born in Sri Lanka and raised in Sweden, the newly crowned APT champion lives in Beijing and considers himself more of a cash game regular than a tournament poker player. But it seems his tournament skills can no longer be questioned after winning this Main Event and also taking out the APT Asian Series Goa Freezeout 4 side event on Friday.
In the final hand, Nilsson held K♦ J♦ and called Khetan’s all in on a flop of K♣ 8♠ 8♣. Up against A♣ Q♥, Nilsson’s kings were way in front and managed to dodge an ace or running cards on the turn 4♥ and river 6♥.
