Piyush Gupta is clearly showing he is here to play. After winning a small three-way pot, he raised to 27K from the small blind and saw the flop run A♣[10d} 8♠ with Gerard Bringley who called from the big blind. Acting first, Gupta bet 28K, and with that, he won the pot as Bringley folded.
Piyush Gupta kicked off the hand with a raise to 24K and found himself two callers, Julian Hasse and Calvin Tan. At the flop of 5♣ J♦ 6♠, Tan checked from the big blind, Gupta continued and bet 43K, and both Hasse and Tan opted to fold.
Bringley is on the move again, he shoved his stack for the second time today but this time there were no callers. Antonio Angeles did think about it but the folded and showed his pocket nines. Bringley returned the gesture and showed his pocket aces.
Action folded all around the table to small blind player Calvin Tan who shoved his 200K stack in the middle. Big blind player Piyush Gupta folded. Tan revealed his pocket eights.
Gerard Bringley may have come in with the shortest stack but he quickly doubled it a hand against Piyush Gupta. During the hand, Bringley shoved his 86K chips and Gupta called.
Bringley: Q♠ Q♦
Gupta: A♦ 9♣
With the board running blanks for Gupta, Bringley doubled up. He now has around 200K chips.
Benjie Lim was the first casualty at the Final 8. He fell at the hands of Julian Hasse in a hand that began with Lim raising to 43K only to be re-raised to 85K by Hasse. Lim answered with his own re-raise and shoved his remaining 110K chips in the middle. Hasse snap-called and it was a showdown:
Hasse: A♦ A♠
Lim: Q♣ Q♥
With the board running A♥ 9♦ 2♣ 10♣ K♣, Lim was eliminated in 8th place. Hasse climbed to 540K chips. Benjie Lim earns PHP127,000 for his great finish at the Main Event.
Players seem to be getting more aggressive now. In a hand that began with Piyush Gupta raising to 24K pre flop, Benjie Lim obliged and called. At the flop of 6♥ 9♠ 8♠, Gupta slowed to a check giving Lim the go ahead which he used to lay out a 45K bet. Gupta jumped at it with a check-raise all in and Lim gave it up.
Not many hands so far going the distance, but this one did. Antonio Angeles raised to 24K and Benjie Lim called from the big blind. At the flop of 10♠ A♦ 5♦, Lim checked to the raiser Angeles who slid out 17K worth of chips, and Lim flat-called. At the turn of 10♥, both players checked to see the river land 7♦. Lim acted first and bet 65K, Angeles thought about it then folded.
Sam Razavi raised it up to 24K and Antonio Angeles made the call to see a board run 10♣ 6♣ 4♠. Razavi continued and banged out 40K which was enough to get a fold from Angeles. Razavi took it down.
