APT Philippines 2022 Championships Event II

Magsakay out in 25th, Final 24 resume battle in Fay 3

Level: 17 Blinds: 5,000/10,000 Ante: 10,000

Former APT Player of the Series (POS) Vamerdino Magsakay of the Philippines (down to only 4BBs) jumped into the fire with J9o and got called by K5o with the subsequent board reading: Q83 5 4 and became the first ITM elimination as action in Day 2 of the APT Championship came to an end.

Magsakay is the first to get paid as he takes home PhP148,900.00 (US$2,594.00).

The last 24 combatants will resume their battle tomorrow (September 17) at 1:00PM (UCT+8).

Malaysia’s William Teoh sits atop the leaderboard with 1,392,000 in chips while local bet Edilberto “Duroy” Gopez, Jr. is not that far back with 1,387,000. Alex Lindop of Great Britain is currently third with 1,037,000.

Japan’s Nakazawa is ‘Bubble Protected’ Bubble Boy, ITM for the 25 remaining

Level: 17 Blinds: 5,000/10,000 Ante: 10,000

A mere ten minutes after action resumed after a fifteen minute break, Yosuke Nakazawa of Japan decided to go for it and ended up being the Money Bubble.

The hand started with Alex Lindop of Great Britain made a raise from UTG+2 and was called by India’s Kunal Patni. Suddenly from the SB, Nakazawa declared he was all-in. Lindop (the initial raiser) ask for a count and when he learned that the shove was for under ten BBs, he made the call as Patni opted to fold.

Nakazawa showed A 7 while Lindop revealed A 9

The flop came: A 6 J and the turn was a A . Any card above a 10 (that’s not a 7) would chop the pot. The river was the 3 giving Lindop the win and eliminating Nakazawa at 26th place.

However, the Japanese player availed of “Bubble Protection” before the start of the tournament–he had pre-registered, selected the option, and was at his seat before the first hand was dealt. He now gets his buy-in back by virtue of being bought in for free in the event with a similar buy-in. It really pays to avail of “Bubble Protection” in the APT.

Everyone remaining is now guaranteed PhP148,900.00 (US$2,594.00).

The action now continues until the next elimination to make it to the final three tables and then the action halts for the evening.

Carmona, Hong eliminated at 28th and 27th, Bubble Time arrives

Level: 16 Blinds: 4,000/8,000 Ante: 8,000

Don “Pusang Gala” Carmona (28th) of the Philippines and Australia’s Ryan Hong (27th) followed each other out the door as we now arrive at the ITM Bubble.

Several hands went down since, but still no bust out to burst the bubble.

At the Featured Table, Richard “Hot Sauce” Marquez tangled with WSOP veteran Christopher Michael Soyza on a board that read Q Q 3. Soyza raised and Marquez called. The turn revealed a 10 . Soyza led out again and was still called by Marquez. The river brought in the 10 . Soyza bet for value, then Marquez raised. Soyza came over the top with a 3-bet that put Marquez in the tank, using all his Time Bank Chips.

Marquez eventually called as Soyza showed QdJs. Marquez had Pocket 3 3 –a Full House on the Flop that eventually got beaten by Soyza turning trips into a backdoor Boat.

Another hand had Korean lady player Kim Bo Eun getting her A A cracked by the 5 3 of Italy’s Enrico de Rosa after the latter flopped a straight flush during a Blind Defense: 6 4 2 Q 9

But Kim got him back the very next hand by making a sick hero call on a board that read A 10 5 5 10.

De Rosa shoved the River after showing aggression on all streets. After consuming almost all her Time Bank Chips, Kim called as de Rosa tabled 6 4 (a busted Flush Draw) while Kim showed 5 4. Ridiculous call!

We have resumed the action hand-for-hand.

Now at Level 16: Edoc, Chong, Cruz out

Level: 16 Blinds: 4,000/8,000 Ante: 8,000

We have just entered Level 16 (Blinds at 4,000/8,000 with 8,000 BB Ante) with 29 players remaining, four away from the Money Bubble.

The latest to hit the hit are the “Malaysian Sensation” Victor Chong, Hong Kong’s Ray Chiu as well as local hopefuls Dek Cruz–who just took down last night’s Hyper Deep Stack Turbo tilt in dramatic fashion–and former Main Event winner Lester Edoc.

Kim Jun Hee continues to pace the field as his stack is now approaching the 900K mark.

There has been an announcement by Tournament Director Lloyd Fontillas that if the Money Bubble is burst tonight, we will play down to the final 24 players (3 tables) and end hostilities.

Korea’s Kim Jun Hee holds overall chip-lead at the end of Level 14

Level: 15 Blinds: 3,000/6,000 Ante: 6,000

With a 740,000 in chips, Kim Jun Hee of Korea is the chip-leader after the break heading into Level 15.

Four Filipinos are in hot pursuit with Edilberto “Duroy” Gopez (currently in the Featured Table) with 720,000, tied with leading Player of the Series (POS) candidate Dave “Spade” Erquiaga while Richard “Hot Sauce” Marquez has now grown his holdings to 670,000 for solo fourth place. Former APT POS Mike Takayama (at the same table as Kim, Erquiaga and erstwhile chip-leader Alfonso Baja) is now at fifth with an even 600,000 in chips.

Notable eliminations thus far are Singapore’s Feng Zhou and local bets Jason Magbanua, Woody Jeremias and Bonifacio Mondalo–who made it to the Final Table of the recently concluded Main Event.

The blinds (Level 15) are now at 3,000/6,000 (6,000). There are 37 players remaining. Day 2 will be played to the end of Level 17 which means we could actually hit the Money Bubble within the next couple of hours.

Breaking: the Championship event was put on hold as there was an alleged error in the chip raise in one of the outer tables. The claim is that a player lost 4,000 in chips and they may have been mistakenly placed in another stack. After a CCTV investigation, it was determined that there was indeed a mistake made by the dealer and the correction has been applied.

The halt in the action took a little over 20 minutes, but cards are back in the air.

Five tables are still in action.

Baja leads Day 2 at Level 12 break, 55 remaining

Level: 13 Blinds: 2,000/4,000 Ante: 4,000

Alfonso Baja of the Philippines is the current chip-leader at the Level 12 break with 550,000 in holdings. The Ukraine’s Mykhailo Mashchenlo is presently at second with 490,000 while Abhinav Iyer of India is in third with 440,000.

Some notable bust outs include Main Event champion Hernan Villa, High-Roller titlist Flo Campomanes and Aron Dermer of the United States.

Among the noteworthy players still in contention are international campaigners Alfie Poetra of Indonesia, Singapore’s Feng Zhao, American James Bonnano and Indian veteran Jasven Saigal.

We are now in Level 13. Blinds now 2000/4000 (4000).
