India’s Varun Gupta has just drawn first blood here after taking a huge chunk of Michael Soyza’s chips. On a turn board of 9♠ 9♦ 10♣ K♦ and over 60k in the pot, Soyza check-called Gupta’s 21k bet and the river felted J♦. Soyza checked, Gupta bet 40k, Soyza shoved, and snap-call by Gupta.
Gupta A♠ Q♦ straight
Soyza A♥ 10♦
Gupta now up to around 520k while Soyza dropped to 280k.
Our day’s entering third rank player Kai Paulsen won a small pot with his uncalled raise but a few hands after, he earned a heftier one against Austin Walton, then gave some up to Shyh Chyn Lim.
With action folding to the small blind Kai, he limped in and Walton checked. On the flop Q♠ Q♣[9h}, Paulsen led for 10k and was matched by Walton. On the 8♣ turn, it was checked but on the J♣ river, it was back to betting with Paulsen sliding out 23k. He won the pot with no challenge.
Now in the button position, Paulsen raised to 26k and Lim defended on the big blind. At the flop K♠ 6♦ 10♠, and 7♦ turn, no bets came. On the 6♠ river, Lim fired out 45k and took it down with Paulsen folding.
Michael Soyza has chipped up a bit after claiming the next two pots. The first pot was a battle of the blinds against Varun Gupta with Soyza limping in on the small blind. On the flop 10♠ 6♦ J♦, no bets. On the A♠ turn, Soyza slid out 20k and Gupta called. Soyza bet another 15k on the 3♣ river and was called. He won it with A♣ 5♠ top pair.
The next hand also went to the Malaysian pro who raised to 22k on the button but found no callers.
Shortest stacked Luen Hei Kwok moved all in on the second hand of the Final 8 and with no takers, he picked up the blinds and antes.
Shyh Chyn Lim picked up the first pot of the Main Event. With action folding to the button Austin Walton, he raised to 23k. From the small blind seat, Lim popped it up to 67k and won it with Walton folding up.
