Late surge sends Preston Lee up top Championships Event Day 1A; Pak Valeriy awarded Single Day 3 title

Day 1A of the APT Korea Incheon Championships 2018 –  Championships Event – bagged up with USA’s Preston Lee leading with 286,800 in chips. During the last hands called for the day, Lee engaged in a raise war against New Zealand’s Tae Hoon Han who at the time had the largest stack.

With blinds at 2500-5000 ante 5000, Lee raised to 10k, Han three-bet to 25.5k, Lee four-bet to 55k, Han shoved, and Lee called for his tournament life. Han had J J and Lee with K K. No help came on the board for Han and Lee doubled up to over 260k. Lee closed the day adding a little bit more to his arsenal after railing a short stack with 10-10 over 6-6.

Bagging up in second rank was Japan’s Masato Shimizu with 180,400.

And despite doubling Lee, Han was able to recover some chips by eliminating a player with 4 4 over A K that missed. He bagged up the third highest stack of 143,500.

Day 1A survivors move on to Day 2 on Friday, August 17 at 1pm. Tomorrow is the last starting flight to enter the event. Day 1B starts at 1pm. 

Pak Valeriy awarded Single Day 3 title

The NLH Single Day 3 event ended with Uzbekistan’s Pak Valeriy and Nakata Kazunori opting to deal than play it out for the trophy. With Valeriy backed by a bigger stack, he was immediately awarded the title and the higher cut of ₩6,480,000.

The event got underway with 64 entries for a prize pool of  ₩24,832,000. As soon as the bubble burst with Moriyama Masataka knocking out Iori Yogo with 5 5 staying ahead of A 9, the remaining 11 players began to shave down the pot.

After two fell, Nomura Yozo sent another two out simultaneously to bring the field down to 7 players. At this point, Valeriy took command and racked up a big lead.  

At three-handed, Valeriy dominated, grinding down both of his opponents, Yozo and Kazunori. Yozo took a final stand with Q 3 but Valeriy denied him with A 5 straight on a board that felted a dramatic 4 2 K 3 10
