HomeIt was a laid back Sunday at the Asian Poker Tour Cambodia 2016 with only 23 players signing up for Day 1b of the Main Event at the Queenco Hotel & Casino in Sihanoukville, Cambodia. Running alongside was the Pot Limit Omaha Hi event which also posted fairly low numbers of 16 entries; however when sunset hit, the night owls creeped into the poker room for the Deep Stack Turbo 1 event attracting a total of 61 entries.
Main Event Day 1b recap
Main Event Day 1B Chip Leader, Le Ngoc Khanh
Day 1b of the Main Event had a slow start with eight eager players at the felt early to avail of the Main Event Bubble Protection. By the end of late registration, there were a total of 23 runners each one shelling out the $1100 entry fee. After eight rounds of scheduled play, there were 14 players left in the field with Vietnam’s Le Ngoc Khanh coming out ahead with 51,950 chips.
Prior to the last two levels, Khanh was already sitting with a big stack. He won a few more pots before the close of the day, one of which was a full house with his jack-ten. Coasting along with a big stack as well was Englishman Gareth “the nugget” Jones who finished the day with 43,950 chips. Sneaking into the top third slot was Canada’s Jordan Lande who had a card rush during the last level and chipped up to a stack of 43,500 by bagging time.
There were some notables who also made it through, Japanese players Tetsuya Tsuchikawa and Hisashi Ogi, and UK’s Samad Razavi who was seen jumping running around multi-tabling. All of today’s survivors will join the qualifiers from Day 1a starting at 1pm tomorrow.

Pot Limit Omaha Hi Champion, Kai Paulsen
The Pot Limit Omaha Hi side event may have gone by swiftly but the story that unfolded was quite exciting with two well-known players in the APT circuit, Norway’s Kai Paulsen and UK’s Samad Razavi, battling it out at the heads up round. With both players already packing a title each in this festival, a win for either one would be that much more rewarding. Prior to the round, Paulsen amassed a huge stack after eliminating Korea’s Byung Soo Park in 3rd place. Razavi then had to find a way to make a big dent to Paulsen’s artillery, however his attempt was unsuccessful and Paulsen ran away with the trophy along with the $1,550 first place cash prize.

Deep Stack Turbo 1 recap
Deep Stack Turbo 1 Champion, Taing Ngich Heang
The Deep Stack Turbo 1 drew in 61 entries for a prize pool of $5,920. Outlasting and incredibly dominating them all was Taing Ngich Heang. Heang held a big lead very early on in the tournament and brought his big stack with him into the final table of ten players. With only nine players seeing a payout, the bubble round was at hand. Attempting to quickly eliminate a player, Heang called Vietnam’s Hung Nguyen Viet’s all in holding J♦ J♥ against A♥ K♦. To his dismay, the board gave Viet a higher pair with a king landing on the turn. Although the loss shaved off almost half of Heang’s stack, this would eventually be the catalyst for his rise to the top.
Heang quickly went to town and doubled up back into the chip lead with his Q♠ J♦ straight on a board of 10♦ 8♠ 9♥ 5♣ J♣. A few hands after, he shipped in a big pot against Vietnam’s Nguyen Chi Thinh who folded a 4♦ full house on a shove by Heang on the river with a board showing 5♥ 4♣ K♦ 4♥ 5♦. After the bubble burst, short-stacked UK’s Samad Razavi was first to collect some cash in 9th place followed by Japan’s Toshimosa Ito in 8th place. Heang railed Thinh in 7th place, Guam’s Ron Tse fell in 6th place with his A♥ K♦ way behind Ly Thirth’s A♣ A♦, and then from there, it was all Heang.
Heang eliminated Viet in 5th place with his ace-six landing a pair against Viet’s ace-king. Singapore’s Chin Wei Khong was the next victim falling in 4th place to Heang’s full house. Thirth packed up in 3rd place with K♥ 7♥ not good enough against Heang’s pocket sixes, and in just one heads up hand against Frenchman Fabien Parisel, Heang flopped a higher pair with his J♦ 9♣ against Parisel’s 8♣ 8♦ on a board that ran J♥ 6♠ Q♦ 5♣ 4♠. Heang was full of smiles capturing the trophy and the first place prize money of $1,640.
