With a large contingent, the odds were in the favor of Team Japan to make a mark at the APT Korea 2017 and that they did as Katsuhiro Muto won the Main Event while Daiki Horikawa was named Player of the Series.
First off is Katsuhiro Muto, who has won a number of Side Event titles at several APT stops, finally took home his first main event title by winning the coveted APT Korea 2017 Main Event along with the KRW 22,570,000 purse.
It was not an easy task as he had to outlast the likes of APT Kickoff 2017 Main Event Champion Takumi Samejima; APT Daegu 2017 Main Event Champion Nayoung Kim; Japanese superstar GACKT – who proven to be a force on the felt and APT Regional (China) Player of the Year Hung-Sheng Lin on the Final Table.
Muto eventually found himself heads up against Yamato Nakai, a young gun also from Japan. The last hand came when both players were all in with with Muto holding A♠ 9♦ against Nakai’s A? 4?. The flop 3♥ 2♠ 10♥ gave more outs for Nakai but it was not meant to be as the turn J♣ and river J♦ meant that Muto’s 9♦ came into play to move all the chips his way.
Daiki Horikawa is APT Korea 2017 Player of the Series
Daiki Horikawa made his presence felt early in the event by finishing 3rd in the opening Warm Up which he followed up with a 2nd place finish in the Head Hunter. The next few days saw him in the Main Event where he made it to 6th place. And to cap off his run, he came in 4th at the Six-Handed Turbo for a total 313.2 POS Points.
Chinese Taipei’s En-Ching Wu came in second courtesy of his 254.97 POS Points followed by APT regular Yohn Paredes from Peru with 215.56 POS Points for third place in the APT Korea 2017 Player of the Series race.
While in the 2017 APT Player of the Year standings, Japan’s Yoichi Useugi remains the man to beat as he added points to his name after taking down the closing Deep Stack Hyper Turbo Event.
