Piet Pape ships in the Monster Stack event

Another first time APT winner graced the awarding stage with Germany’s Piet Pape rising above the 51 entry field of the highly popular Monster Stack event. Pape entered the Final 8 round with a ginormous stack and proceeded to amass more to take down the title. He went heads up against Japan’s Ken Okada who placed second at an earlier event.

The Monster Stack resumed from an overnight break with 11 players remaining. Only 9 were destined to get paid which meant the short stacks were in danger. Go Mori was first to go while the bubble fell on Iori Yogo.

With the money now flowing, Yohei Miura, the Main Event 7th place finisher, was first to collect. This left the Final 8 players who were then moved to the RFID table. If you missed the live stream, the rest of that event has now been uploaded in the APT Twitch tv and APT YouTube station so head there to catch the action.

For a brief recap, Pape eliminated four players at the Final 8. Among his victims were:

  • Korea’s Bonggi Song (8th) with A-A easily defeating A-10;
  • Estonia’s Keit Kupstis (4th) with A 9 versus Pape’s Q 3 on a board of Q Q A 4 10 with progressive bets by Keit at every round
  • Singapore’s Tong Tan (3rd} fell to Pape’s K Q with his 10 10 outdrawn on a board of 8 J K 7 K;

And of course his final victim was Okada. After a preflop raise war ending up in a shove by both players, Pape had 7 7 and Okada with A-K. The board ran 10 6 9 5 7 for a winning set to Pape. For those watching the stream, there was a glitch in the system so the hole cards shown were incorrect.

Pape denied Okada the title and earned himself the PHP 205,500 first place purse. He also qualified into the Game of Champions. As for Okada, he picked up a decent PHP 126,900 to add to his cash at the NLH One Day event. The Monster Stack event had a buy-in of PHP 16,500 for a prize pool of PHP 742,000.

Go Mori crushed the No Limit Hold’em event

The first side event on the floor today was the No Limit Hold’em with a buy-in of PHP 8,800. By cutoff time, there were 51 entries for a healthy prize pool of PHP 395,800. After ten hours of play, Japan’s Go Mori captured his first trophy of the APT Manila 2017 defeating Yukiko Ogasawara at the heads up round.

Getting to the paparazzi stage didn’t seem all that difficult for Mori who entered the Final 8 round with stacks of chips the rest could only envy. He eliminated four players along the way until he met Ogasawara for the title.

Despite Ogasawara recognized as one of the most highly decorated female players, it was still a lopsided match with Mori grabbing nearly all the pots, muscling with his monstrous stack. The final hand saw Ogasawara shove on a flop of 8 J 10 and was called.

Mori Q 10 pair

The turn 8 and river 2 sealed the win for Mori. He shipped in the PHP 109,600 first place money and the event trophy. Mori also qualified into the Game of Champions. You can catch the Final 8 action in our APT Twitch station and at the APT YouTube channel.

Svyatoslav Dvornikov champions the Super Deep Stack Turbo

At every APT event we offer several fast-paced events such as the Super Deep Stack Turbo. Despite the low buy-in of PHP 6,600, the event only attracted 26 entries for a prize pool of PHP 151,300. Still, once the game was on, it was a battle for the title with Russia’s Svyatoslav Dvornikov emerging victorious.

During the money round, with Kohei Kawanishi already out in 4th, we caught the action with Korea’s Choul Seung Byun all in against Dvornikov. Byun held 2-2 and Dvornikov with Q-10. When the flop came down K-A-J, it was a dominating straight for the Russian who went on to win the hand with no improvement on the turn and river for Byun.

Immediately after, the crippled Byun was eliminated by Singapore’s Tong Tan who then fell to Dvornikov moments after. The crucial hand saw Tan with Q 9 and Dvornikov with 10 9. The board ran 4 10 3 10 6 for trips to Dvornikov. With barely any chips to make the big blind, Tan was eliminated two hands later.

Dvornikov captured the PHP 65,000 winner’s purse and qualified into the Game of Champions.
