APT Vietnam Ho Chi Minh crowns two more champions, Player of the Series known

HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam – Before the staging formally closes in this fascinating city, The APT still has to close out its event calendar by feting four more titlists as well as naming its Player of the Series as the final day of competition here culminates in bringing down the curtain on one of the tour’s most memorable stops at the Saigon Poker Club here.

What finished first was Event #19—the Deep Stack Hyper Turbo that was won by APT tour veteran Do Hoang Long by defeating fellow Vietnamese Antoine Phan.

Do, who has been present at many APT events over the years, also took home the winner’s purse of VND147,670,000.00 (US$6,350.00) while Phan took home VND98,440,000.00 (US$4,233.00). Korea’s Weon Jae Yoon was third for VND68,440,000.00 (US$2,943.00).

The Monster Stack (Event #18)—which drew 214 entries—upped the energy in this venue even more as the road to ITM as well as the Final Table was filled with a roller-coaster of emotions those involved. In the end, Warm-Up champion Phan Huu Minh Tri took down his second title of these proceedings against fellow local bet Nguyen Duc Thanh while tour regular Raider Kan Yew Fatt from Malaysia took third.

Phan captures 2nd APT title and takes down Player of the Series

Phan also claimed the top prize of VND491,360,000.00 (US$21,128.00) adding to the VND535M (US$23,029.00) he attained in his Event #1 triumph and this win catapulted him into the top spot in the Player of the Series (POS) standings, relegating erstwhile leader Amit Kaushik of India to second place.

With the point from the Main Event in, Phan needed to be victorious in his final event to dislodge Kaushik and did just that. Even if Kaushik placed in Event #20 (the last of the Single-Day High-Rollers) it would not be enough to overtake Phan.

For his Player of the Series win, Phan’s payday didn’t end as he also received US$800.00 along with a limited-edition watch.

The final POS standings were:

  1. Phan Huu Minh Tri (VIE) – 1,188.76
  2. Amit Kaushik (IND) – 936.30
  3. Tran Tuan Anh (VIE) – 849.77
  4. Ha Van Thien (VIE) – 786.70
  5. Lee Seongmin (KOR) – 714.84
  6. Ha Tuan Dung (VIE) – 667.94
  7. Nguyen Duc Bao (VIE) – 625.10
  8. Hoang Thai Son (VIE) – 587.97
  9. Mai Bien (VIE) – 576.29
  10. Robert Thomas (USA) – 508.61

Meanwhile, the last 2-Day High-Rollers (Event #17) and the final Single-Day High-Rollers (Event #20) are still ongoing but have less than eight players remaining.

That update will happen very shortly.
