The National Poker League in conjunction with the Asian Poker Tour (APT) and The Star, are delighted to announce what is likely to be the biggest poker tournament in NSW history, ‘APT Sydney 2013’. Combining the NPL500 and The Star Summer Series main attraction into one blockbuster poker happening, this premier event is expected to have a prize pool of between A$1,000,000 and A$1,500,000, giving poker enthusiasts the chance to win big as well as show their skills on the world poker stage.
NPL has been hosting poker events throughout Australia, but over the last 3 years these events have truly evolved and the NPL now boasts a player base of well over 350,000. From their ground-breaking NPL500 at the East Leagues Club in 2010, to the 2011 NPL500 II at the Parramatta Leagues Club in 2011, last year’s NPL500 III found its home at Sydney’s famous casino, The Star.
With the incorporation of the APT name into the main event of The Star Summer Series, comes a prediction of more than 560 participants, breaking the previous record field of The Star set in 2007. A field of 556 will create a A$1 million prize pool and early player response indicates this could approach A$1.5 million.
The NPL is Australia’s premier poker tournament company, operating over 500 weekly Texas Hold’em poker tournaments in a wide variety of licensed venues throughout Australia. NPL gives away over $5 million in prize money each year and is the first Australian league to hold a half-million dollar event outside of a casino.
Joe Hachem, 2005 World Poker Champion and spokesperson for the NPL, believes that this is a great opportunity for amateur players in Australia to play with some of the World’s best.
“This event provides poker enthusiasts the opportunity to test their skills not only against the best players from around Australia, but also at an international level now that APT is to be involved in the future,” Joe explained. “It’s this type of event that will produce Australia’s next big poker star.”
The Asian Poker Tour, which is recognized around the world as one of the leading organizers of poker events in Asia is making its first appearance in Australia. APT is well known for its events staged in Macau, Philippines, South Korea, Cambodia and India.
“We are delighted to be associated with the NPL and be part of the impressive and highly popular Star Casino’s Summer Series” said Jeff Mann, CEO of Asian Poker Tour. “This time around we are only associated with the Main Event, but we are looking forward to much stronger ties with the NPL and Star Casino moving forward and thus ensuring anexpanding APT presence in Australia”, Mann added
To enter, participants can either win their tickets at selected NPL regional and special events (see www.npl.com.au), via satellite games at The Star or via direct buy-ins closer to the event. APT Sydney will be held at The Star Casino, Sydney 5th-8th of December as part of the Casino’s Summer Series which runs from 27th of November to 8th December. APT Sydney 2013 is set to be one of the most significant events in Australian poker history, with the best of the best in Australian poker gathering to see who will take home what could be a record pot in NSW!
