The moment has arrived! Good morning everyone and welcome to opening day of the APT Philippines Championships 2018!
Starting today until April 2nd, the Asian Poker Tour brings you 12 days of action-packed poker festivities at long-standing partnership host venue Resorts World Manila, one of the most popular APT event locations.
At the start of the year, the APT promised to deliver you guaranteed events so for this highly anticipated festival we bring you a whopping 10 Million in guaranteed prizes and a schedule of events certain to fill your every poker appetite. So let the games begin!
Here’s what we have in store for you today along with a guide on what to expect in the days ahead.
APT-RWM Opening Event 2 Million Guaranteed
Right off the bat, we go full speed with the APT-RWM Opening Event 2 Million Guaranteed. This is one of three guaranteed events offered at the festival. To ensure everyone a chance at the juicy welcome prize pool, we’ve lined up two flights for you to enter, both of them running today:
- Flight A – begins at 1pm
- Flight B – begins at 5pm
Keep in mind, the opener is a scheduled two-day event. Players start with a 15,000 stack, opening blinds at 25-50 with increases every 30 minutes. Late registration / re-entry closes at the start of round 7.
For today, a total of 13 rounds will be played before the remaining players bag up. Buy-in is Php11,000.
Super High Rollers – Special Event
Also on the tournament floor today is the Super High Rollers event. This special event tends to attract players interested in competing at a very high stakes level. Coming in with a towering Php1,000,000 buy-in, expect the prize pool to be quite hefty. This is a scheduled two-day event, and anyone willing to pony up the dough is welcome to participate. Cards start flying at 3pm.
Main Event 8 Million Guaranteed – Featured Event
As soon as the weekend hits, it’s time for the big one, the first featured event that everyone is coming out for, the APT Main Event 8 Million Guaranteed. Many notable players, APT regulars, title-holders, and top ranking Asian players have already confirmed their attendance including defending champion, Mike Takayama – 2017 APT Philippines Championships winner.
The Main Event is a No Limit Hold’em tournament crafted with the best structure in the region. Players begin with a deep 25,000 stack, opening blinds at 25-50 with gradual increases every 60 minutes. Buy-in is Php55,000.
One of the many improvements we made this year is to extend late registration / re-entry of our featured events. With only 8 levels of play scheduled on the starting days, players will now be able to sign up as late as Day 2 before the start of Level 10.
The main will run a course of five days, from March 24-28, with two starting days, Day 2, Day 3, and the Final 8.
Championships Event – Featured Event
Running back-to-back with the Main Event is the second featured event, the APT Championships Event. This event takes place on March 28 – April 2 with a one day break in between for Good Friday (religious holiday). Buy-in is Php110,000.
Alike the main, this event will run a course of five days. The structure is also deep. Players begin with a 50,000 stack, opening blinds at 100-200 with gradual increases every 60 minutes. Late registration / re-entry closes at the start of Level 10.
Upcoming side events
In addition to the events listed above, the schedule includes our highly popular side events such as the NLH Two Day Event, Ante Up for Charity, Head Hunter, Ladies of Poker, Monster Stack, Pot Limit Omaha, OFC Pineapple, NLH and Turbo events. Buy-in to these events range from Php5,500-Php55,000.
The side event with the largest buy-in is the High Rollers event at Php107,500. This event has had consistent growth in numbers with players eager to play in a smaller field for a bigger payout in just two days of work. The HR event runs on March 27-28.
To complete the guaranteed events is the MegaSportsWorld Deep Stack Turbo with a 500K Guaranteed prize pool. This event will be attended by famous Filipino soccer player and MSW Poker Ambassador, Anton Del Rosario. Last year, Del Rosario fared well at the APT Philippines Championships, reaching the final table of the Main Event where he finished in 7th place.
With that said, let’s have a fantastic 12 days of poker!
