Japan’s Shinichiro Tone wins the Pot Limit Omaha

PLO Champion, Shinichiro Tone

Among the many tables running on the tournament floor, the Pot Limit Omaha was the lone side event that ran past the midnight hour on Wednesday night. There were 117 entries with 18 of them seeing the money. Yesterday afternoon, the Final 8 resumed and after several hours, Shinichiro “Johnny” Tone defeated fellow countryman Toyoda Masahiro to win the event trophy and USD 8,700.

Prior to Tone’s victory, one of his biggest challenges was the three-handed round where In Chul Sin was sporting a very large stack after having eliminated Inage Fuyuki. After many hands, Tone landed that money hand to usurp the chip lead. With blinds at 8K/16K, Sin opened with 41K, Tone three-bet to 139K, and Sin called. The flop dropped 7 2 5, Sin bet 200K, Tone shoved, and Sin folded. From there, Sin swung up and down until Tone finished him off in 3rd place with nut flush over three-of-a-kind.

The heads up round had a couple of exciting hands with Masahiro overtaking Tone but he was immediately crippled down to 3 big blinds. Tone had A 10 8 5 and Masahiro A Q J 8 on a board of 10 6 A 10 J. The next hand it was all over, Masahiro was eliminated and Tone topped the event.
