Dao Minh Phu rules Main Event Day 1C, leads the 150 players into Day 2

Vietnam’s newly minted Dao Minh Phu is on fire at the series! Having just won the Superstar Challenge for his first ever APT title, he carried the momentum into yesterday’s Main Event Day 1B and closed the night bagging the fifth largest stack (equivalent to 5 starting stacks or 163 BB) out of the 58 survivors.

To the surprise of many, Phu returned to the Main Event to take on the final starting day. The rush continued and by the last two hours of scheduled play, he was the undisputed chip leader with a stack double that of his previous day finish. Just before the final number of hands was announced, Phu claimed a big pot against Shardul Parthasarathi that sent his stack surging to nearly 400k. On a board Q 7 4 3 3, Phu had 5 6 straight.

Phu closed Main Event Day 1C as chip leader with an overwhelming 363,200 stack. That’s equivalent to 454 BB or 14.5 starting stacks. With this better result, his 130,900 Main Event Day 1B stack has been removed from play. Phu will enter Day 2 as the player to catch.

In addition to Phu, another 71 players advanced, two of them were also double qualifiers, Chu Thai Thinh and Gilbert Goh. Both players will also see their shorter stack removed. Other notable players making the cut were APT decorated players. Ngoc Anh Cao, Huu Dung Nguyen, Huy Pham, Akshay Nasa, Le Ngoc Khanh, and Jude Kumar.

Main Event Day 1C drew the biggest crowd of 178 entries and when combined with the previous days turnout of 67 and 151, it summed up to a smashing 396 entries. This blew way past the guarantee with the pot now sitting at over VN₫ 7.6 Million. That number will further increase with registration still open for two levels in Day 2. Once that closes, we will have the prize pool and payouts posted.

For those jumping in, buy in is VN₫ 22,000. This gives you a stack of 25,000. If you sign up at the last second, your stack will be equivalent to 21 BB. Registration closes at exactly 1:10pm.
