HOANG TRUNG HIEU calls Tran Huy Hoang ‘s bluff at the High Rollers Single Day
The second edition of the High Rollers Single Day had a rough time picking up players with the Main Event generating plenty of interest. After ten rounds, it closed with 14 runners for a prize pool of VN₫ 407,400,000. Among the attendees was Filipino player Vamerdino Magsakay who won three of these events at the Phu Quoc series. His hunt for a fourth was denied, falling one spot from the money. Picking up the first cash was Nguyen Van Hoang aka Hoang Nevar after his pocket Eights were outdrawn by Tran Huy Hoang’s Queen-Jack when a jack landed on the turn.
Heads up between Hoang Trung Hieu and Tran saw stacks fairly even at the start until Hieu began to pull away. In one final ditch effort, on a board that completed 8♦ 5♠ 10♠ 2♠ Q♣, Tran called Hieu’s flop and turn bet then jammed on the river when Hieu checked. Hieu quickly called. Tran showed 9♦ 7♠ bluff, for a missed double belly. Hieu won it with 10♦ 5♦ two pair for his first ever APT title. Hieu walked away with the event trophy and VN₫ 232,220,000 (~US$ 9,900).

JUDE PRAVEEN KUMAR lifts first poker title at the Super Deep Stack Turbo
India’s Jude Praveen Kumar outlasted the 57 runners of the Super Deep Stack Turbo to capture his first ever poker title. During the two hours of registration, notable players Vamerdino Magsakay, David Erquiaga, Tan Wah Meng, and Zarvan Tumboli were among those heating up seats however as the bubble neared, all of them were done and dusted. Two spots before the money, eventual champion Kumar eliminated a player when his K♠ Q♠ landed two pair on a board K♦ Q♦ 6♣ 7♣ 3♦ to beat A♦ 10♥. This awarded him the chip lead, overtaking France’s Erwan Regnault.
The bubble round began with the average stack at 17 BB. Among the short stacks in danger was Nguyen Gia Trung aka Daniel Nguyen who only had 5 BB behind. Daniel Nguyen went on to ship two double ups with the second one leaving Quang Nguyen down to crumbs which he then proceeded to claim on the next hand. With the money intact, the game ran for another hour before heads up was reached. The title came down between Daniel Nguyen and Kumar, both players running hot. The bigger stacked Kumar went on to win it with A♦ 2♠ that dominated Nguyen’s K♠ 8♣ on a running board 5♠ 10♣ 3♣ A♥ J♣. Kumar shipped the VN₫ 98,190,000 (~US$ 4,190) first prize and the event trophy.
