With the event attracting 144 runners at TWD 49,500 buy-in, it built a prize pool worth TWD 6,285,500 (~USD 205,400) of which only 15 were due to earn. The eventual winner is guaranteed to pocket the APT Championships Event Trophy, APT Championships Ring, and a pocketful TWD 1,697,300 (~USD 55,400).
Day 3 ended with Tommy Goh falling on the bubble and Chen An Lin missing a final 8 berth by one spot. You can read up on the action via our Live Updates. We have a brief Final 8 bio for you below.
Final 8 review
En Ching Wu – Taiwan – 1,410,000
Entering the final day, three players will strut in with over a million in chips. Taiwanese pro En Ching Wu brings in the largest of 1,410,000 (70 bbs). To amass his stack, in Day 3 Wu eliminated three players on the road to the leader’s throne: Eric Tsai, Lim Chee Seng, and Chen An Lin (9th). This is Wu’s first-ever APT Championships Event final table but it is not his first appearance at an APT major event. In 2017, Wu finished 2nd at the APT Finale Macau Main Event. He also cashed at five other major APT events.
Choy Wai Tak – Hong Kong – 1,072,000
Hong Kong’s Choy Wai Tak is back at the APT Main Event final table. Back in May, Choy finished 8th at the APT Korea – Seoul Main Event. With his second rank stack of 1,072,000, there is a very strong chance he will improve on that finish. Choy bagged up the overall chip lead of the starting days and ranked 6th among the 21 players entering Day 3. He also won the NLH Single Day event several days prior.
Huang Yi Qing – China – 1,019,000
For the first time in his young live tournament career, Chinese player Huang Yi Qing is at the final table of an APT major event, and with a very healthy stack of 1,019,000. Huang had a huge Day 3; he was the first player to cross into a million while simultaneously bringing the day’s entering chip leader – Jinho Hong – down to earth. Wherever Huang places, it will be his first APT cash.
Yi Wei Peng – Taiwan – 933,000
Taiwan’s Yi Wei Peng has been consistent throughout. He entered Day 3 running third in chips and closed in fourth rank with 933,000. This will be his third cash at an APT major tournament and wherever he places, it will be his deepest.
Chi Jen Chu – Taiwan – 920,000
The third Taiwanese player in the lineup is Chi Jen Chu with 920,000. Chu attacked the felt during the bubble round to bring his stack to strength. Out of his career achievements, this will be his first APT major event cash. Days ago, he finished 2nd at the High Rollers event.
Jinho Hong – Korea – 832,000
Out of all the players of the final 8, Jinho Hong had the scariest run during the bubble round. He entered Day 3 as chip leader then was crippled by Huang Yi Qing just before the money. He dropped below 10 bbs, managed to double up three times to return to fighting form. Impressively, Hong is the only player on a back-to-back major APT final table appearance. Several days ago, he finished 2nd at the series Main Event.
JC Sayo – Philippines – 506,000
The lone player from the Philippines, JC Sayo, enters the final 8 with 506,000. He railed a couple of players in Day 3: Sheng-Chien Cheng and Craig Edwards (14th). Sayo is an APT circuit regular with multiple APT Main Event cashes earned through the years. His deepest was at APT Cebu in 2016 finishing in 4th place.
Seongsu Kong – Korea – 467,000
To complete the final 8 is Korea’s Seongsu Kong who had a swinging Day 3. He railed fellow countryman Seung Yeol Kim in a three-way showdown. Last May, Kong was one of the APT Championships Event finalists where he finished in 8th place. He is looking to better that. Kong will enter the final day with 420,000 in chips.
