Championships Event: Day 2 ends with Taiwan’s Chi Jen Chu leading the 45 runners

APT Taiwan 2019 continued to surpass all expectations with the Championships Event setting a new tour record at the CTP Club – Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association. What has been an incredibly successful series from the start, with the venue packed everyday, the TWD 49,500 buy-in  featured event drew 235 over two starting days and another 53 in Day 2 for 288 entries total. That turnout more than eclipsed the previous tour record of 248 entries (in Vietnam). The prize pool settled at TWD 12,571,200 (USD 407,800), which was 2.5 times the advertised guarantee.

Day 2 end of day chip counts

Day 2 results

After 8 hours of regulation play, it was bagging time with 45 players remaining. The money was not reached with 29 players due to earn a cut of the juicy pot. Sealing up a commanding chip lead was Taiwan’s Chi Jen Chu with 806,000.

Coming in second- rank, though not close to the leader, was Philippine’s Marc Rivera with 738,000. This was a very solid showing for the Filipino pro who days ago placed second at the two-day High Rollers event.

To round out the top three front runners was Taiwan’s Jack Nai Yuan Hu with 696,000. Hu already has a title under his name at the ongoing series and is looking very strong to land another big one. He won the Super High Rollers event, defeating a powerhouse lineup of players.

In addition to the three leaders, many notable pros navigated their way to bagging time. Among them were: Alan Lau King Lun (668,000), Alex Lindop (513,000), Gao Wen Ling (475,000), Phachara Wongwichit (456,000), Jeannette “Jay” Tan (221,000), Phua Tzai Wei (219,000), and Yen Han Chen (137,000). Also through was Hong Kong pro Sparrow Cheung (270,000), the only APT major title-holder left in the field.

As for Day 2’s entering chip leaders, Ben Lai was through with 438,000, and Tomoharu Furuya with 519,000. Mark Reyes could not match his starting day performance and fell out of the running. Also bumping the rail were: Dong Guo, Soo Jo Kim, Jinwoo Kim, Lim Yohwan, Hung Sheng Lin, Chen An Lin, Michael Kim Falcon, Victor Chong, En Ching Wu, and Danny Tang,

The final 45 players return on Saturday, March 2 to race to the money and a Final 8 seat. Only 29 will see a return. Cards in the air at 1pm.
