Day 1C recap

From the get-go, Day 1C was destined to be a monster day. With no seats left by Level 2, standby players had to be accommodated. To do so, two tables were added and the feature table reserved only for final 8 play, was opened. By the end of the scheduled 8 rounds, 246 registered and ponied up the TWD 33,000 buy-in with 147 surviving. Closing the day as chip leader was an APT major title-holder, Korea’s Lim Yohwan aka Boxer.

Boxer led the race with around 90k at Level 6 and climbed to 160k during the last level. He lost a little after doubling up a player whose pocket sixes got lucky on his pocket jacks. Boxer sealed up 148,000 and will be the overall chip leader entering Day 2.

Running up big stack as well was Taiwanese player Philip Wang with 125,700.

The day saw some great action, we caught a couple of head-turners during the last level. At table 17, with blinds at 300-500 ante 500, utg Jung Seung Mook raised to 1200, called by utg+1 and Max Menzel, down the orbit Ying Lin Chua three-bet to 11.5k, blinds folded, Jung and utg+1 folded, then Menzel jammed his stack of around 75k. This sent Chua tanking.  He had enough to cover it but couldn’t pull the trigger and folded while showing his K K. Menzel returned the gesture by showing only one card 9. Menzel scooped up the pot. Menzel bagged up 112,200 and Chua ended with 86,500.

The last hand of the day saw sb Raymond Wong and bb Tzai Wei Phua staring down a board 4 4 6 10 3, Wong bet 8k, Phua shoved 38.8k. This tanked Wong who had enough to cover it but he opted to hold on to them for Day 2 with a reluctant fold. Phua claimed the pot while showing Q 8 bluff.
