In 2009, the festivities at the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Macau 2009 included the DafaPoker No Limit Hold‘em Heads Up event, which was a success with 54 players. Now the one-on-one battle at the tables is back and will be a featured side event at the APT Philippines 2011.
The Heads Up Asian Championship, which has a buy-in of US $440, will have a limit of 64 entries with two flights scheduled on opening day, March 28.
Expected to participate in the event are Michael Cua, last year’s APT Main Event champion; Wally Sombero, the godfather of Asian Poker; Asian circuit fixtures Ben Abrahams and Gordon Huntley; as well as local pros Mark Rivera and Jay Tolon among many others.
According to tournament director Lloyd Fontillas, “Half of the slots have already been locked in well over a month before the event!” confirming that the heads-up format is a popular one for poker enthusiasts. He added, “I advise interested players to reserve their seats. Demand is running high for this event.”
The hype for the heads-up is also growing by the day as a number of poker rooms – All In Cebu, the Midas Touch and Empire Poker Sports Club – have opened qualifiers for this particular side event. For more details on these events, click here.
