Championships Event Day 2 recap
The CHAMPIONSHIPS EVENT resumed today with 33 players out of the 54 Day 1 entries back at the scene. Another 17 signed up to bring the total to 71 entries. This just exceeded the prize pool to PHP 10,330,500 (US$196,200). Only 12 places were destined to earn a cut with the eventual winner claiming a hefty PHP 2,872,800.
Once the freezeout stage began, Day 2 action was merciless with players dropping like hot potatoes. The field was immediately cut in half within two levels. Among the fallen were Cao Ngoc Anh, Lester Edoc, Mike Takayama, Kosei Ichinose, including the day’s entering chip leader, Eunho Kwon. Kwon attempted a bluff on Aditya Sushant that failed sending his stack near the gutter.
The game did slow down at 24 players. By Level 15, it was down to the bubble round. Short stacks Masaki Fujitani and Lim Yohwan enjoyed double ups to keep them in the running but for Dongkyoon Seo, he busted on the bubble to Iori Yogo with A♥ J♠ unable to improve against K♠ K♣.
Once the money was guaranteed, Fujitani (12th), Jim Bonanno (11th), Takao Shimizu (10th), and Jin Yong (9th) were eliminated to end the day. You can read up on the action in the LIVE UPDATES.
Action resumes tomorrow, Wednesday, December 5, for the race to the title. Blinds continue running at 3K/6K ante 6K with the clock counting down from 14 minutes and 42 seconds. Cards in the air at 130pm.
Seongsu Kong wins the Super Deep Stack Turbo
After busting out of the Championships Event, Korea’s Seongsu Kong jumped in the Super Deep Stack Turbo event and shipped it. He overcame the 84 runners to pocket the PHP 218,000 first prize. He defeated Norway’s Oxvind Ellingsen at heads up. This was Kong’s third cash of the series.
Joseph Sia captures the WLS Deep Stack Turbo
The second event of the day, the WeLoveSport Deep Stack Turbo event went by like a storm. Well-known local player Joseph Sia rose above the 75 runners to bring home the trophy and the PHP 99,100 first prize. He defeated Anthony Castro at heads up. Among the players that cashed was Mike Takayama who currently leads the APT Player of the Series race.
Congratulations to Seongsu Kong and Joseph Sia and the Final 8 contenders of the Championships Event!
