After eight days of nonstop poker, we have reached the penultimate day of the APT Kickoff Vietnam 2018 at the Pro Poker Club. Today is going to be epic and historic with one of the Final 27 players of the Main Event certain to be crowned champion of the APT’s 2018 season opener. The eventual winner will also earn the bragging rights of being the first player to win the inaugural event here in Ho Chi Minh.
Along with all the glory and recognition that comes with winning a major international event, the champion will receive the coveted APT Championship Ring, APT Championship Trophy and the VND 1,313,920,000 first place purse.
The Main Event kicked off six days ago, progressively completing three starting days, Day 2, and Day 3 to lead us into today’s final run. The event drew in a record-breaking 664 entries generating a huge prize pool that swelled three times over the guarantee to VND 9,661,200,000. Pieces of that large pie were already claimed last night (at Day 3) starting at 111th place.
The race to victory will begin at 130pm. Out of the Final 27 players, the top 15 players are over the million range which is roughly around the average stack of 1.2M. The top 5 players sit with over 2M. In the lead is Germany’s Adrian Esslen with the largest stack of 2,765,000. With last night’s redraw, Esslen will be tabled with three other players within his chip range, Korea’s Siyoung Lee (2,195,000), Vietnam’s Dong Anh Dung (2,185,000), and Frenchman Sebastien Noiret (2,085,000). At the table as well is Vietnam’s Harry Duong, one of two decorated APT Main Event champions left in the field.

The Monster Stack resumes its final day starting at 2pm, then in the late afternoon at 5pm we will have the Super Deep Stack Turbo 2 up and running. Mitchell Nong wins the NLH 1
The NLH 1 event attracted many players to the registration booth but since the number of tables were limited, only 68 were able to get in. With a buy-in of VND 5,500,000, the prize pool grew to VND 329,800,000 with 12 players earning a slice. Claiming the largest payout was Mitchell Nong who entered the heads up round against Clarence Toh with a much larger stack. Several hands in, Toh suggested a deal however it was turned down. They played on and Nong reigned victorious, never relinquishing his lead. He captured the VND 91,080,000 first prize and the event trophy.
