Most often the last starting day to jump into the APT Main Event tends to have the biggest turnout. At the APT Kickoff Vietnam 2018, this couldn’t be any truer with every seat at partnership venue Pro Poker Club claimed within the first two hours. Due to this, a long list of alternates followed that by the end of the scheduled 8 rounds, a new starting day record was set with 286 entries for Day 1C. In addition, the APT had to cancel both side events to give way to the massive influx.
Earning the high chair on this epic night was Germany’s Bastian Blumenröther with his 288,200 in chips. Blumenröther topped the 161 remaining players of this starting heat and is the only foreign player to have done so with the past two days claimed by local players. Coming in second position was Canada’s Nam Truong with 274,900, and in third was Malaysia’s Richard Tiong Kuong Rong.
Also making it through the big day were past APT Main Event champions: Korea’s SJ Kim at 127,400, Singapore’s Feng Zhao at 111,100, UK’s Samad Razavi at 91,600, Philippines’s John Tech at 83,800, Malaysia’s Choong Kian Weng at 82,700, and Japan’s Hisashi Ogi at 41,600.
Among the players that busted out today, we caught one champion bounced into that list. Czardy Rivera joined two players all in on the final few hands of the night however his 4♣ 5♣ gamble only got as far as a flush draw. He will be able to jump back in on the first hour of Day 2.
Day 2 will resume on Thursday, January 25. As announced, there will be two flights: 1pm and 6pm. To find out what flight assignments, just head to our Facebook page or click this link. We will also have the list posted at the poker room.
