Yesterday, the APT Championships Philippines 2017 at Resorts World Manila kicked off its last major event of the series, the APT Championships 2017. Buy-in to this event was USD 2,200. There were a total of 189 entries from the combined starting days with Victor Miranda as the leader of Day 1A and SJ Kim for Day 1B.
Day 1A review
Day 1A of the APT Championships came and went with 69 players in the field. After the scheduled eight rounds, only 39 remained with Filipino Victor Riston Miranda ruling with his 223,700 stack at bagging.
While no one came close to Miranda’s stack, there were many notable players who made it through the day’s rough ride. Finishing up with the second largest stack was Hajime Iwakura with 176,800 in chips, Michael Tchong from Australia in third with 159,500 in chips, Junichi Nakagiri with 159,000 in chips, and rounding out the top five is Loo Juazhong with 144,400.
Other known players in the mix were Michael Kim Falcon, Jiyoung Kim, Bryan Huang, Hung-Sheng Lin, Andrew Gaw, Huu Dung Nguyen who won the opening event, and past APT Main Event champions Linh Tran and Katsuhiro Muto.
Day 1B review
The last entry day to the APT Championships dragged in 120 players with 65 of them surviving the day. The top three leaders were all from Korea with highly decorated pro SJ Kim armed with the largest stack of 263,500 in chips. During the last few hands of the day, Kim railed a player with his full house to slide straight into the chip lead. Kim recently finished in 6th place at the record-breaking 442 field Main Event. He will be entering Day 2 as the overall chip leader.
Trailing close behind him is Kim Gab Yong with 262,000 in chips. Yong is the only player to have won two side events at the ongoing series. And sliding into the third spot is Changhun Lee with 214,000 in chips.
There were many notable players who survived the day, among them were past APT Main Event champions John Tech, Hisashi Ogi, Julius Malzanini, Feng Zhao, Iori Yogo, In Chul Sin, Linh Tran, Ha Duong, Alexis Lim, and Mike Takayama, the reigning APT Main Event champion.
Side Events Today
There are also a couple of side events running today, both are highly popular events. At 3pm is the No Limit Hold’em 2 event. Several days ago the first NLH event saw 204 entries. This event will have the same entry fee of USD 440 with the same structure. Players start with a 10,000 stack (200x the starting big blind) and blinds go up every 30 minutes.
At 6pm is one of the most fast paced events in the lineup, the MegaSportsWorld Deep Stack Turbo with an entry fee of USD 165. Players start with a 10,000 stack (400x the starting big blind).There are no antes but the jumps between levels are quite fast at 20 minute intervals.
