After five days of Main Event action at the Asian Poker Tour Noumea 2016 held at the Casinos De Noumea in New Caledonia, Main Event Day 3 chip leader Daniel Gilles outlasted the Final 8 showdown to capture the XPF 3,402,300 first place purse, the championship title, and the APT Championship Ring.
Heads up round: Joel Douaglin vs. Daniel Gilles
The heads up round began with Joel Douaglin holding close to 600,000 more in chips compared to Gilles stack of 1,142,000. It would be a drawn out battle as chips moved back and forth between them. But in the last several hands, Gilles began chipping away at Douaglin’s stack after a series of showdowns.
The winning moment saw Gilles make it 120,000 to go preflop. Douaglin then announced all in with an instant call from Gilles. We were off to the races as it would be a classic battle of over cards against a pocket pair:
Gilles A♦ J♦
Douaglin 9♣ 9♦
The flop of 10♥ 4♠ 2♣ gave Gilles more outs along with the 5♦ on the turn. Then it was the 3♠ that completed the runner-runner, one card gut shot straight for Daniel!
Congratulations to New Caledonia’s Daniel Gilles for his big victory at the APT Noumea 2016 Main Event!
