It was a roaring Saturday at the Main Event of the Asian Poker Tour Poker Weekend Series Manila 2016 with 139 players turning up for Day 1b here at the APT Poker Room in the Waterfront Manila Pavilion Hotel and Casino. There was a lot of action all around the room with many players getting dusted and many shipping in multiple big pots. Leading the 48 survivors at the end of the day was Malaysia’s Jin Yong with 139,700 chips.
Yong started the day getting railed five minutes into the starting buzzer. He quickly re-entered and from there, his run was much different. He picked up many small pots, grinding the table for every chip. In the late stages, he eliminated two players, one of them was William Kang whose flush draw missed against Yong’s A-K top pair and the other was with a winning pocket tens. He also picked up big pots on raises and shoves that weren’t called. Trailing Yong by a small margin was UK’s Daniel Furnival with 135,400 chips. Furnival entered numerous pots, tanking players with his fearless bets. Taking the third spot was Vietnam’s Julien Tran with 130,100 chips.
Along with the leaders, there were eight more players who crossed the century mark. Among them was past APT Main Event champion Gerard Bringley. Bringley was the first-ever weekend series champion and is looking to defend his title. There were other champions who also made the cut today, Japan’s Iori Yogo, UK’s Samad Razavi, Canada’s Linh Tran, and Filipino Mike Takayama.
There were many hands worth reading about, such as when Bringley tanked Richard Marquez, or when Delfino Ty bluffed Furnival, and other stories with quads gracing the felt. We were able to capture some of those moments and posted them in the Live Reporting section of the website.
Day 1b began with many players getting to the battlefield early. There were 33 players who availed of the Main Event Bubble Protection. We will return for Day 2 at 1pm tomorrow, Sunday, August 14, 2016 for another eleven rounds of exciting Main Event action.
