HomeThe past two days of the Asian Poker Tour Philippines 2016 II at Resorts World Manila in Newport City, Philippines saw a total of 114 entries for the US$2,200 Main Event with 65 players qualifying into today’s Day 2 round. The prize pool is at a healthy US$221,200 with the eventual winner guaranteed a large piece of the pie, a chunky US$56,600.
Leading the way with the largest stack overall is Canadian pro Linh Tran who topped Day 1a with 240,500 chips. Tran already has one APT Main Event title under his belt along with several other APT side event victories. Coming in second-in-chips is Day 1b’s leader, Korea’s Kimura Jongyeol Lee with 224,500 chips. Lee has been doing well at the APT this year and is in the top ten of the APT Player of the Year 2016 rankings. Tran and Lee are the only two players who crossed into the 200k chip range.
Day 2 will start promptly at 1pm today. Players will go another eight rounds or until the money stage is reached at 18 players. The average stack coming into today is 87,333. The Main Event also had a large number of players avail of the Main Event Bubble Protection with 34 of them still in the battlefield.

Yesterday also saw two side events wrap up, the No Limit Hold’em 1 Day event and the Queen Cards Ante Only Turbo event. Below is a quick recap on those events.
NLH 1 Day recap
NLH 1 Day Event Champion, Nick Gorman
The No Limit Hold’em 1 Day event saw 63 players in the field for a prize pool of US$18,330. The payout stage began with Filipino player Kim Enriquez cashing out in 9th place. Afterwards, the final eight players were put in the spotlight, transferred to the RFID feature table. When field downsized to four players, big stacked Byung Il Park (Korea) looked like he may run away with it but a couple of unlucky hands stopped him in his tracks. Park doubled up USA’s Nick Gorman whose K♠ 5♠ all in landed a flush against Park’s Q♥ Q♦ that hit a set on the flop. Following that, Park doubled up Japan’s Tetsuya Tsuchikawa who also had king-five (though offsuit) defeating his pocket queens again when a king showed up on the board. Park eventually settled for 4th place, railed by Tsuchikawa. Tsuchikawa also eliminated Roman Berson in 3rd place and had a sizable stack entering the heads up round against Gorman. His chip advantage would not last, paying out a costly double up when his play on six-three offsuit ran into Gorman’s pocket nines. The final hand saw Tsuchikawa all in with K♥ 7♠ and Gorman with Q♦ J♦. The board ran J♣ A♥ 2♣ 10♣ J♠ giving Gorman trips, the first place purse of US$5,090 and his first-ever APT event victory. Queen Cards Ante Only Turbo results
Queen Cards Ante Only Champion, Iori Yogo
The Queen Cards Ante Only Turbo event turned up 43 players for a prize pool of US$6,260. There was a good showing of APT regulars in the field but by the time the money was reached, none of them would be at the felt except for current APT POY 2016 leader, Iori Yogo. Yogo would go on to win the event, defeating Korea’s Kong Seung Su at the heads up round. With this win, Yogo climbed even higher in the standings. Yogo won the US$2,510 first place cash prize and the APT event trophy.
Side Events Today
There are two side events running alongside the Main Event today. The Pot Limit Omaha Hi starts at 2pm with a buy-in of US$440, and the WeLoveSport.com Deep Stack Turbo gets underway at 6pm with a buy-in of US$165.
