From 180 entries down to the Final 8 players, the Asian Poker Tour Philippines 2016 Main Event continues today starting at 130pm. What’s up for grabs? The first place big kahuna cash prize of $133,900, the APT Championship Ring, and the Championship Trophy!
Entering the day with the largest stack is New Zealand’s Thomas Ward with 2,145,000 chips. The last time Ward was in the final table of an APT Main Event, it was back in 2012 for the APT Asian Series Manila where he finished in 8th place. He is in fine shape today to go much deeper.
Second-in-chips is Korea’s Seung Soo Jeon with 1,965,000 chips. Jeon is in familiar grounds having won the APT Asian Series Cebu Main Event in 2013. He is looking to claim his second title having come very close at the APT Kickoff 2016 Main Event in January, finishing in the runner-up spot against Thailand’s Thong Botho. Like Jeon, Filipino Czardy Rivera is also hunting for his second APT championship title. Rivera won the APT Asian Series Manila Main Event in 2013. He enters today with 875,000 chips.
Among the Final 8, Guam’s Jim Bonanno also experienced an APT Main Event final table back in January of this year where he finished in 8th place. He is in the Final 8 with 665,000 chips. Australia’s Chris Edgar is another previous APT final tableist; he came in 3rd at the Main Event of the APT Asian Poker Series Cambodia 2015. He joins the Final 8 today with 305,000 chips.
For Malaysia’s Kah Boon Teh, and Canadians Zack Lazarus and Michael Lee, this is their first APT Main Event Final 8 appearance. Teh enters with a towering stack of 1,885,000 chips, Lazarus with 590,000 chips, and Lee with 575,000 chips. For Lazarus, he is having a great run at this festival having placed 3rd at the $50,000 Opening Event.

Pot Limit Omaha Hi Champion, Yah Loon
Today resumed the final 8 of the Pot Limit Omaha Hi. There were 80 entries for this event bringing the prize pool to $31,040. Despite having the largest stack entering the day, Korea’s Kim Tae Hwa bowed out in 6th place. The one who went the distance to claim the event trophy was Singapore’s Lim Yah Loon after defeating Rolf Galasen at the heads up round. Loon claimed the $8,450 first place cash purse for his victory.
MSW Deep Stack Turbo Champion, Nguyen Thi Anh Doo
At the MSW Deep Stack Turbo event, there were 113 entries for a prize pool of $16,440. Claiming the event trophy was Vietnam’s Thi Anh Dao Nguyen who defeated Korea’s Sungchang Park at the heads up round. He earned $4,200 and the event trophy.
The Monster Stack will resume today at 2pm with 29 players heading back to the felt. Alongside will be the High Rollers at 3pm. Buy-in is $5400. Then at 5pm, a new event hits the floor, the Super Deep Stack Turbo event with a $330 entry fee.
