HomeIt was a celebratory day at the Asian Poker Tour Philippines 2016 with many side events crowning its winners; however, the biggest story of the day was the announcement of another two more years of APT events to be staged at Resorts World Manila.
For several years, the strong partnership between the APT and RWM flourished and grew with the APT delivering 15 successful international poker events. Today, RWM’s Chief Gaming Operations and Marketing Officer, Hakan Dagtas, and APT’s CEO, Jeff Mann, announced the signing of a new two-year exclusive agreement, with a minimum of four international caliber APT poker events to be held at RWM before the end of 2017. The APT is happy to announce that the next APT event at RWM will be on September 14-22 for the APT Manila 2016.

High Roller OFC Pineapple Shootout Champion, John Kim
The High Roller Open Face Chinese Pineapple Shootout (12 max) hit capacity with 12 players coughing up the $1,100 buy-in. When it came down to the last three players, Korea’s Simba Jae Kyung, Singapore’s Lim Yah Loon, and Korea’s John Kim, all of them were decorated OFC winners with the Koreans holding two titles each. Then Loon exited in third place leaving Kim and Simba to battle it out. Heads up had Kim way ahead in chips. Simba put on a strong performance, but in the end, it was Kim who out-dueled him. The final spread saw Kim scoop with a pair of kings on top, a straight from 2-6 in the middle, and a straight from 8-Queen on the bottom. Impressively, this is Kim’s third back-to-back-to-back title. Kim earned $5,820 and another trophy to add to his OFC shelf.
Ladies of Poker Champion, Gia Guison
At the Ladies of Poker event there were 17 entries generating a prize pool of $2,470. This event is notorious for running past the midnight hour and this was no different. Getting a chance to play on the RFID table at bubble time, the four remaining ladies battled it out, each of them taking their turns at the chip lead. Five hours after being moved to the featured table, the bubble finally burst with Japan’s Ai Shirai Shi losing all her chips to the other Japanese lady, Ayano Taira. Despite Taira’s win, she was eliminated in 3rd place by Filipino player Gia Guison. This led to a heads up match between Guison and Vietnam’s Thi Anh Dao Nguyen. It was a tough match between them, and eventually, both struck a deal. When play resumed, they fought hard for the trophy but in the end, it was Guison who rose to victory with her Q♥ J♦ besting Nguyen’s A♥ 2♣ on a board that ran Q♠ 7♦ 4♥ 5♥ J♥.

The Head Hunter $100/Bounty event saw a total of 153 entries creating a prize pool of $44,100. Play will resume tomorrow with 8 players remaining. Leading the pack is Filipino player Edilberto Gopez with 427k chips; Vietnam’s Julien Tran is in second rank with 254k chips; Japan’s Junichi Nakagiri is next with 232k chips; Singaporean Bryan Huang is smack in the middle with 201k chips; Singaporean Ng Yow Hui (Jack) with 112k chips; Germany’s Peter Kloedger with 111k chips; USA’s William Schrader with 102k chips; and Geoffrey Mooney with 82k chips.
