Chinese Yao Hui Continues Good Run This Week, Leads Day 3 of Main Event

51 players out of 341 entries in the APT Asian Poker Series Manila 2015 Main Event will return play for Day 3 of the highlight tournament of the nine-day poker festivities at Resorts World Manila in Pasay City, Philippines.

Leading the pack is China’s Yao Hui, who enters Day 3 ranked No. 1 in chips with a 342,500 haul on Monday. Hui already has a good run in this Asian Poker Tour event cashing in three side events; in 33rd place in the APT-RWM 2M Guaranteed (PHP 19,100) and two silver finishes in the Head Hunter (PHP 324,050) and Ante Up for Charity (PHP 52,500) events.

Chip Leader Going Into Main Event Day 3, Yao Hui

15 places off the money and gaining the pole position, it appears the Chinese pro is primed to cap off the excellent week with another deep finish, this time in the main event, where the champion will win over PHP 3.7M from the total prize pool of PHP 15,215,400.

In the post-Day 2 interview, Hui admitted that he’s a “very tight” player and was actually nursing a “high fever” throughout the day.

The conservative Chinese player proved patience is key in the early levels when he won’t indulge in too many pots including one when he bet big on the flop Q 7 10 but got raised by Noel Araniel.

In the mid-levels, Hui started accumulating more chips winning with 7 10 on a board of 8 4 6 10 8 in a bet-and-raise action on the river. That helped him near the 200K mark in chips by dinner break. He continued his good play in the next levels including one against erstwhile chip leader Ken Garcia when he won a big pot on a board 4 3 9 3 J without ever seeing their hole cards.

Hui is on top for now but will be challenged Tuesday by a slew of other pros who also had a good Day 2. Only 36 players will make the money in this main event.
