Two Asian Poker Tour regulars, Linh Tran from Vietnam and Simba from South Korea, lead the 46 survivors from Day 1B of the APT Asian Poker Series Manila 2015 Main Event at the Resorts World Manila in Pasay City, Philippines.
Tran and Simba finished with identical chip counts of 111,300 and 109,100, respectively with Jojo Allado also over the century mark with 103,050.
Tran’s surge came in the early levels when he grounded Michael Falcon’s set of fives by making the flush on the turn. On the flop 5♦ 7♦ 4♥, Tran shoved with A♦ K♦ for the nut flush draw. Falcon called and the diamond immediately came on the turn 10♦ and Falcon got busted out in Day 1B.
In the second-to-the-last level, Tran picked up pocket aces, trapped Korea’s Jeon Seung Soo, who shoved after hitting the top pair with Q♠ 10♣ on a turned board of 2♦ K♠ 4♦ Q♦ and couldn’t recover on the river. Tran eliminated Jeon and got his chips to jump over the 100K mark at this point of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Simba had a great call with 9♣ 9♠ on a scary board of 8♣ K♥ 7♥ 8♠ 3♥ after an all-in by an opponent. Simba won that hand after the opponent showed just Q♣ 3♠ in the showdown and the Korean climbed to about 65,000 in the mid-levels.
By the sixth level, Simba once again picked up pocket nines, spiked a set on the turn and never gave up the lead to rack up the chips worth about 85,000.
Aside from Tran, Simba and Allado here are the rest of the players who had a good run in Day 1B.
