HomeThe APT Asian Poker Series Manila 2015 opens today at the Resorts World Manila (RWM) in Pasay City, Philippines with the APT-RWM 2M Guaranteed event kicking off the nine-day poker festival set from September 29th to October 7th.
APT Tournament Director Lloyd Fontillas, as always, is excited to return to RWM with high hopes and expectations that poker pros from around the region and around the world will come in droves for this APT stop.
“Action will be off the hook! My expectation in terms of attendance is very high because of all the positive changes we made at the start of the year including the [tournament] structure [for some events]. Along with all the hard work we put into the first half of the year to bring all the players together here for Manila,” said Fontillas.
15 side events plus the Main Event are on tap in the next nine days with the highlight tournament with PHP 50,000 buy-in having three starting days; Day 1A on Oct. 2 (Friday), Oct. 3 (Saturday) and Oct. 4 (Sunday), all with start times at 1:00 PM.
“We are looking to close this year really strong to make 2016 event better!” Fontillas added.
The side events include the popular Head Hunter (PHP 16,500 buy-in); MegaSportsWorld and WeLoveSport Deep Stack Turbo (PHP 5,500 buy-ins); and OFC Pineapple Shootout (PHP 11,000) tournaments scattered across this week. Check Events Schedule page for complete details.
With four APT events to go for the calendar year, there’s also the mad race for the APT Player of the Year 2015 crown with British pro Sam Razavi once again in pole position and aiming for his fifth consecutive POY title.
“Sam, the POY leader is the only one needed to be mentioned. He will be here to defend his lead and all of the other guys at the top 10 looking to dethrone him,” Fontillas added when asked which popular pros are expected to land in Manila and play in this series.
Razavi, who has seven titles and 19 ITM finishes so far this year, has 2,309 POY points. Behind the Brit are Iori Yogo (Japan) with 1,664 points; the Philippines’ Lester Edoc and John Tech with 1,514 and 1,298 points, respectively; and Norbert Koh (Singapore) with 1,292 points to complete the top five in the APT POY 2015 race.
