APT 2015 Begins In Cebu: Loaded First Day Expected to Draw Large Crowd

The APT Asian Poker Series Cebu 2015 opens Tuesday with innovative changes in tow for the first Asian Poker Tour event of the year. Right from the get go, the opening day will be loaded and poker enthusiasts are expected to come in droves at the Waterfront Hotel & Casino in Cebu City, Philippines in the event held in partnership with the All In Poker Sports Club from January 27th to February 4th, 2015.

The first side event of this APT Asian Poker Series is set at 1:00 PM with the NLHE Multi Re-Buy + 1 Add-On event with buy-in of PHP 3,300 set to kick things off in Cebu along with the One Hand Main Event Satellite Step 1 with buy-in of PHP 550 where players can qualify to the One Hand Main Event Satellite with PHP 5,500 buy-in at 10:00 PM. Also scheduled on Tuesday are the pair of Main Event satellite tourneys at 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM and the Ante Up for Charity side event with PHP 7,500 at 7:00 PM.

The first major change for this APT stop is that the usual eight-day APT schedule is now a nine-day poker event. The Main Event, set to start on Friday (Jan 30th), has now three starting days, Day 1A, Day 1B and Day 1C. Other changes include moving the Asian Series Main Event levels to 1 hour from the previous 45-minute rounds. Asian Poker Series side events will also adapt a 30-minute blind level and starting stacks are now at 10,000 from the previous 7,000.

APT Tournament Director Lloyd Fontillas is far from worried about the changes and how players will react to some of the new format.

“My favorite change is having the extra starting day for that main event, along with that main event’s one-hour rounds because the traveling players after coming from afar will have another shot and the increase in time levels give us shorter starting days,” Fontillas shared during the opening day of the poker festivities. “This will give our players more free time to experience Cebu!”
