HomeWhile a strong storm is in the country, one Filipino also showed a strong effort on the felt in Day 2 of the APT-RWM Poker Finale 2014 Main Event at Resorts World Manila (RWM) in Pasay City, Philippines. Mike Takayama bagged the most chips at the end of the day hauling in 529,000 in chips to lead 35 others who made the money round.
All remaining players are now assured of at least PHP 90,000 payout and Main Event play continue on Tuesday (December 9) when the contenders play down to the eight-handed final table. A total of 289 entries registered in the event creating a total prize pool of roughly PHP 12.85 million.
Chip Leader Going Into Main Event Day 3, Mike Takayama
Takayama is in familiar territory as he won the last main event in the APT Asian Series Manila last September 2014. With his performance in Day 2, an impressive poker showing documented in the APT Team’s Live Updates, it appears he’s primed for another APT title run.
Takayama entered Day 2 as one of the chip leaders and sustained that status throughout the day. Early on he eliminated a player with his bullets before he dispatched some ladies with A♣ 10♣ to add to the already huge stack. While there were challenges along the way, he continued his rise by eliminating Eemil Tuominen and David Steicke— courtesy of quads!— in the latter part of the day. Not contented with the already huge haul, he won a 100K pot over two opponents when his A♣ 5♣ hit two pairs on a board of 2♣ 6♦ 5♦ 4♥ A♠ and at this point got past the half-a-million mark.
It was actually Norbert Koh who had the chip lead for most of Day 2 but he settled for 445,000 at the cut-off mark owing to some late losses including one to compatriot Ong Jun Yang, who doubled-up off Koh to survive. Koh’s good moments included a big pot win over Day 1B chip leader Michael Mariakis.
Completing the top five entering Day 3 are Linh Tran (Canada) with 333,000; Chow Mun Fei (Malaysia) with 272,000; and Azusa Maeda (Japan) with 267,000.
Other notable poker pros left in the field are John Tech (Philippines) with 161,000; Simba (Korea) with 83,000; Tetsuya Tsuchikawa (Japan) with 147,000; Mariakis (Australia) with 168,000; Euryd Rivera (Philippines) with 174,000, among many others.
