Three more winners were crowned as APT side event champions on Friday in the continuing action of the APT-RWM Poker Finale 2014 at Resorts World Manila (RWM) in Pasay City, Philippines. Filipinos Jojo Tech and Martin Gonzales ruled the High Rollers and OFC Pineapple events, respectively, while Malaysian Sun Tan conquered the Head Hunter tournament.
Tech entered the final table as one of the chip leaders with 196,500— second to Swedish Douglas Olsson who had 207,000 in chips. While Olsson busted out in 4th place, Tech went all the way to the high-stakes title.
When play was three-handed — against the Japanese pair of Katsuhiro Muto and Yo Doi — Tech had a the chip lead with over 450,000 to Muto’s and Doi’s roughly 200,000 each.
Tech first busted out Muto when the Filipino flopped a straight holding 5♣ 9♠ on a board of 8♦ 6♠ 7♣ K♠ J♣ moving all-in on the river and got a quick call from Muto who had the big slick.
The heads-up round was quicker than expected finishing just under an hour after the final two was set . Doi shoved with A♣ 2♠ but Tech made the call with A♦ 9♠ for what would be the final hand of the High Rollers event. The dealer boarded the flop 2♣ J♥ 8♥ to give the lead to Doi but the turn 9♥ gave it right back to Tech. The river 5♦ arrived to officially give the win to the Filipino and the roughly PHP 1.32M champion’s purse.
