For APT’s big game, the big names came to play.
Popular international pros converged at the All-In Poker Club in Waterfront Hotel and Casino Lahug in Cebu, Philippines for one of the most anticipated side events, the High Rollers of the eight-day long APT Asian Series Cebu 2014.
Among the notable players who played in the high-stakes event with a PHP 108,000 buy-in were J.J. Liu, a very successful player in the international scene including multiple ITM finishes in World Series of Poker (WSOP) and World Poker Tour (WPT) events; Bryan Huang, a constant performer this side of the world; Iori Yogo, another veteran campaigner internationally; and Samad Razavi, the 2012 and 2013 APT Player of the Year.
The total number of players reached 34 at the end of registration to produce a prize pool of PHP 3,298,000. The champion in this high-stakes game will receive PHP 1,319,800.
After 11 levels of play, only 7 survived and advanced to Friday’s High Rollers Day 2 set at 2:00 p.m.
It was Yogo from Japan who had the biggest haul at the end of the day with 209,000 in chips. Another Japanese came in second as Masato Yokosawa had 169,000 while Razavi (England) is at third with 169,000.
Five players will place ITM in this event and others still contending for the title are Tan Jung-Jung (Taiwan) with 125,000; Kosei Ichinose (Japan) with 70,000; Liu (USA) with 62,000; and Dwayne Sherbina (Canada) with 49,500.
Meanwhile, in the other side event of the day, the Mix Game PLH / PLO event, Euryd Rivera from the Philippines came out on top beating a 60-strong field in the event with $11,000 buy-in. For his efforts, the Filipino went home with PHP 161,200.
Aside from the continuation of the high-stakes game, two more side events– the DafaPoker Head Hunter with PHP 11,000 buy-in and the Ladies of Poker with PHP 5,500 buy-in– are scheduled Friday, February 14. Both tournaments are scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
