The winners of the first two side events of the APT Asian Series Cebu 2014 took the stage Thursday as they were recognized for their efforts in winning the first two titles in the eight-day long poker festivities at the All-In Poker Club in Cebu, Philippines.
Paul Yu from the Philippines outdid a field of 84 in the NLHE Rebuy and Add-On event and and Michael Kue Seong from Australia beat 46 others in the Add-On for Charity event on Wednesday as the pair had an ideal start in the new APT season.
The charity drive, which had the highest number of participants in any charity event in APT history, produced PHP 94,000—a third of the prize pool— which will be given to the Cebu City Medical Center to help out in rebuilding the hospital which was badly damaged by Typhoon Yolanda.
Indeed, the opening day wasn’t just about winning some serious cash but also about giving back to the Cebu community which suffered a lot after the recent tragedy.
Two more side events—the Mix Game PLH/PLO and High Rollers also got underway on Thursday as 60 runners signed up to play in the mixed game with a PHP 11,000 buy-in while 32 players joined the high-stakes game with a PHP 108,000 buy-in.
The total number of players in the high rollers event is not yet final as the registration was still open as of press time.
Among those who coughed up the huge entry free were J.J. Liu, Jun Saito, Iori Yogo, Bryan Huang, Samad Razavi, Linh Tran and Antonio Martins as the most notables in the field.
Check back later in the day for updates and results of the today’s side events.
