Already a veteran—and consistent winner—in the local poker scene, Czar Ian Marcos bagged yet another title; this time in the second side event, the $300 No Limit Hold’em of the APT-RWM Iron Man Poker Challenge at the Level 2 Premier Club of Resorts World Manila.
No Limit Holdem 1 Champion: Czar Ian Marcos
A self-proclaimed “pure gambler with no night life”, this house player from the Philippines adds yet another trophy to his growing collection and probably, one of the most prestigious wins he has so far racked up.
Marcos beat a field of 47 runners to win the title worth $4,170 and did it in dominating fashion in the heads-up battle against Japan’s Iori Yogo.
“He was too passive; I think he was already drawing dead (by heads-up). I was also ahead in chips so my confidence was really very high,” said Marcos, who also placed ITM in a number of APT events in the past.
Aside from APT events, Marcos has also won a couple of 1M guaranteed tournaments (in Philippine Pesos) earlier this year including one here at the RWM.
“Yeah, I’ll play in the main event. I’ll try to break the record but no prediction yet,” declared Marcos in half-jest when asked of his plans for Friday’s APT-RWM Iron Man Poker Challenge Main Event.
Yogo settled for $2,810; the Philippines’ Ernesto Ouano and Elmer Kalaquia was at 3rd ($2,220) and 4th ($1,870), respectively; and Japan’s Tetsuya Tsuchikawa ($1,700) completed the side event’s winners circle.
Meanwhile, Lim Shyh Chyn won the Ante Up for the Philippines charity tournament. The Malaysian won $1,500 for his efforts but the real winners are the Typhoon Yolanda survivors, who will receive the $2,320 collected from the tourney.

Also of note was the class act of third-placer Australian Liam Anderson who donated all of his winnings worth $590 to the cause!
APT action continues tomorrow with the last satellite to the main event set at 1:00 p.m. Then, the attempt to break the Guinness World Records “Longest Continuous Poker Tournament” begins at 8:00 p.m. The current record is at 36 hours, 34 minutes and 41 seconds set in Delaware, USA in August of 2012.
