HomeAll the notable players made the stories early but an APT newcomer made the headlines late in Day 1A of the APT Asian Series Manila 2013 Main Event at the Genting Club in Resorts World Manila.
Main Event Day 1A Chip Leader, Craig Sloan
After 11 levels of play or more than eight hours of quality poker, it was Craig Sloan of Australia who had the best haul in Day 1A with 147,900 worth of chips. The Aussie leads the 69-strong survivors from Day 1A, which started with a total of 159 runners in this event with a PHP 50,000 buy-in.
“I just wanted to get to Day 2,” said Sloan when asked of his mindset going into the main event. A relieved and jovial Sloan added that being the chip leader after Day 1A, “was just the bonus.”
“I had a set of sixes and called an all-in and another player called with a flush draw and I got paid about 80,000. (It was) a good pot,” explained Sloan on why he got over the 140K mark by the end of day.
The Australian isn’t the only one with over 100K in chips with a few others more than doubling the average stack of 40,000. A Japanese and three Americans join Sloan inside the top five in chip counts after Day 1A.
Fu Chuan Yu is second with 106,000 and followed closely by USA’s trio of Je Hoon Lee (105,400), Jon Bargfrede (100,600) and Josh Stefansky (100,300) who are ranked third to fifth, respectively.

Meanwhile, in the only side event of the day, Tadashi Ogawa of Japan took down the SuitedAce No Limit Hold ‘Em title outlasting 128 other players for a win worth PHP 319,700.

In yet another record-breaking feat, the Last Chance Mega Satellite attracted 164 hopefuls– the most for any satellite tournament in APT history. 17 Day 1B main event seats were up for grabs in the tourney.
The eight-day long poker festivities continue Sunday, October 13th with Day 1B of the APT Asian Series Manila 2013 Main Event scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
