The Godfather of Poker in Asia, Wally “The Dream” Sombero, is definitely a pride of the Philippines. After retiring from the Philippine Army with the Honor of the Country award, Wally travelled to Las Vegas and learned and played poker with the mission of bringing this “mind sport” to his home country, as he knew there was the potential for Filipinos to excel in the game. In 2005, Wally Sombrero, together with other poker enthusiasts in the country, started the first registered poker room at the Airport Casino.
APT is proud to have had Wally Sombrero on its tables, having won the Pot Limit Omaha Event of the APT Philippines 2010 and placed 9th in the Main Event of APT Philippines 2011. As poker continues to grow not just in the Philippines, but in Asia, Wally is proud of having contributed so much to this game.
